  • From what reporting I’ve heard, it’s an informal poll. If I had to guess, probably some google form that was emailed out to members. Given the leadership of the union spoke at RNC and praised Trump, I wouldn’t read too much into it.

That said, still very possible uneducated, mostly male members support Trump for personal reasons, and honestly I don’t know how much that should matter. The endorsement actually should reflect whatever candidate has the unions interest in mind, which is why most other unions are supporting the obvious, pro-union candidate.

  • People are extremely dumb, and I think it’s closer to third grade level that’s recommended. They’ve been gutting education since at least Reagan and this is the inevitable result.

The strangest thing is, Harris isn’t even ambiguous in prioritizing reducing costs and helping small businesses with financial assistance. People just tuned out by then on the debate, that was closer to the half way point. When I lecture, I have to take breaks for discussion after 15 minutes because even well meaning people lose focus after that time. It’s actually well researched pedagogy, but a debate isn’t a lecture and there’s no way they thought about it (aside from maybe throwing to commercial, haha).

  • I watched it, and I usually skip debates because the summaries are more meaningful (it’s usually just used for fluffy sound bites). This one just felt… Different? She baited the fuck out of him. There will be so many memes.

And yeah the moment he said the great Orban I fucking lost it, more at than the dog eating migrants and the post birth abortions. Like, Harris can’t necessarily call that “ally” an asshole fascist but like, those of us in the know, know.

  • It really is bizarre just how little people bring up citizens united, or election integrity in general really. Focus is always on disenfranchisement, which is important, but neither side wants to fight pacs, or go even further back and not allow politicians to lie in ads. You know that used to be a thing nearly a half century ago?

I just hope that enough Dems will trade political capital with more moderate Dems to push for some reform. It’ll take a lot of sway to get them to do away with their money maker, though.

  • Their voters are (somehow) split on that issue, so understandable they don’t want to highlight a weakness during their convention. There’s plenty of other issues that Democrats are split on, too, as with any two party system. (And btw, as a whole, they’re still a hell of a lot better on Gaza than their GOP counterparts, or as my crazy GOP uncle-in-law said recently in a family get together, he wants to see Gaza turned to glass as Muslims deserve).

Would I like to see a better DNC? Sure. But I’ll accept that at least they’re better than last time, allowing AOC to actually give a speech and highlight economic disparities more throughout (as in, less afraid of the socialist label). Plus Harris picked Walz over Shapiro, which really would have reinforced the isreal position.

  • There’s always been a rule of thumb in my circles that the more greenery you see in a neighborhood, the more affluent it is. Interesting enough, you can also link heat to violent crime even when controlling for socioeconomic status.

In other words, a lack of trees exacerbates an already high crime rate in low income areas. But good luck convincing people to pay for green when you’ve got dozens of other problems.

  • It’s very true. We’ve been brainwashed into a year long campaign mostly because it generates a lot of money for various parties but prior elections have proven it’s mostly what happens in the last month that makes a difference.

Y’all are lucky you can make coalitions, though. This is more akin to your election if you only had centrists and far right running. Two party system and all that.
