  • What you were hoping for was no change in your life. You gave a scenario and a solution was provided to you. You’re taking no responsibility, and want no change in convenience. How can you expect the ignorant to move off of WhatsApp if even the informed won’t do it?

I did the method suggested above and the vast majority of my contacts eventually moved to Signal, those that didn’t switched to old fashioned SMS to contact me. You are not missing out by not being a part of one specific messaging app, there are many out there.

  • I think you’re forgetting the power of consumers. At work you might not be able to replace Photoshop or Microsoft but at home you certainly can. The more people that become familiar with alternative software the more likely professional environments are to adopt it.

Why would a company want to pay Adobe or Microsoft if their employees are more adept with free alternatives? Especially if those alternatives gain feature parity with the paid services while the paid services lock parts behind paywalls and subscriptions.

Don’t let perfect get in the way of good!

  • What? Where did I say that?

I’m saying that instead of the entire population having to change every single clock backwards and forwards every year. So that’s children, the sick, retired people, students, workers, unemployed, aristocrats, the fucking lot, everyone. That’s every computer, every clock, every embedded system.

Instead of that, jobs just say come in at 7 - 3 for half the year and 8 - 4 for the other half. Is that really such a difficult concept for them to adopt?

  • Wow, thank you for the detailed response!

That final article isn’t quite relevant though and doesn’t exactly instill confidence when it took 2 years and 108,000 searches (180 per day) before anything was done…

I’m glad to hear there’s supposed to be some form of accountability, and checks and balances but we’ve seen throughout history that those sorts of checks are always open to abuse or intentionally ignored when it’s convenient for the powers that be. You may have a benevolent police force just now but that doesn’t guarantee anything in the future.

Mandatory government ID on your person at all times is still dystopian.
