Its a joke lol, why are you so serious all the time
Its a joke lol, why are you so serious all the time
Sorry, I’ve already posted the new internet rules and they took immediate effect, I’ll have to report this incident to…the council.
Clearly we need an Arch version of rule 34 and rule 35
Rule 34a: If linux software exists, it’s in the AUR. No exceptions.
Rule 35a: If linux software is not in the AUR, it will be made available in the AUR.
But I can’t figure out a reasonable security architecture to use. I thought I had one, but I failed to account for VM jackpotting attacks. And it feels like it takes me a month to do what a competent ops person can do in a day.
You’re overthinking it, just secure things enough that you’re ahead of the script kiddies automated scan tools (which isn’t a lot tbh)
The people with actual real skill don’t care about you, they’d rather go after juicy targets, like companies or politicians or rich people
Don’t listen to that right-wing idiot Dave Ramsey. He says stupid shit all the time, like never ever go into debt for anything ever, which is just unrealistic.
For example, according to him it’s preferable for you to get a 500$ clunker that you will undoubtedly have to continuously repair over a reasonably priced reliable used car that you take a small loan out for. There’s a middle ground with debt, even credit cards.
And I’m going to plug YNAB which is why I have these numbers, it costs $120/yr which is included. Highly recommend doing some kind of budgeting even if it’s on paper in a notebook once a month because all these costs can creep up. If you want free electronic use a spreadsheet.
My problem with getting and staying on budget is keeping up with data entry, YNAB and it’s ilk are all too manual. And the automatic ones have issues pulling together all my accounts and reconsilling the transactions between them. For example, a $10 PayPal debit from my bank account and it’s companion PayPal transaction should be correlated as the same transaction, but all the softwares I’ve tried would automatically treat them as separate no matter what I did. Which would ultimately throw off all the nice budget numbers making them uselss
I was hoping the genAI craziness would at least bore out a great fully automated budget system that would at least mostly solve my problem, but alas I still have yet to hear anything on that front :/
Are you saying because Graphene is unrootable and 150k choose it means user space is fine?
Because those 150k made a choice to switch to a custom rom with the features built-in that they would typically need root for on ANY stock OEM rom, such as effective system-wide Adblocking
Ofc userspace is just fine in that scenario
Now, if you’re saying only 150k people choose to flash a custom rom out of billions of Android devices that userspace is just fine and dandy, that’s just misleading. An absolute ton of those billions of devices are most likely Samshits, which is actively hostile to user choice and rooting and does everything they can to stop it. Up to and including (like someone else commented here) using Knox to brick the phone.
Living with userspace because you can’t or don’t want to overcome your choosen OEMs blockers/hostility is NOT evidence that user space is just fine.
On paper, but it’s pretty hit or miss IME on its implementations
Lol I love the “You don’t need root on modern Android, it does all the things you used to root for!” People. No, no it doesn’t lmao
Probably only shows up that way on lemmy.ml, which has a blocker for various things they consider slurs
Lmao, the community most likely to complain about censorship…is practicing… censorship lolol
Maybe for smaller things, a regular car maybe.
But by the time a suitable digging machine arrives on scene and digs a big enough hole for a semi it’d probably be faster to flood it with water. Not to mention what might be underneath the ground, so they’d also have to spend time determining if there’s any gas lines or whatever before they dig so they don’t make a much bigger problem
Doesn’t seem to be a very good plan, USPS has been consistently delivering all my packages, sending and receiving, on time or even ahead of schedule.
And I send and receive a lot of packages. I also send and receive FedEx a lot, and they’re also consistently on time, but USPS still beats them on “chance of early delivery”
I don’t do a whole lot with UPS, I’ve maybe had 4 or 5 packages the past couple months with them and 3 of them were late. UPS sucks.
The problem isn’t the tooling, ofc you can do it with a block of metal and a lathe and mill, but you may or may not have the skillset to be successful
In contrast a 3D printer is cheap, easy to obtain, and can be operated as simply as download file > send to 3d printer
How long ago was this?
Many years ago, HP was actually pretty good even on their budget lines of the time. Then those got shitty to keep costs low, and it just creeped up from there until shitty cost cutting was evident throughout all their other lines up through premium business class laptops
Also, HP’s bullshit on other areas like Printing is what earned them the top spot
Dell suffers the same enshittification on their laptop lines that HP did, just a bit behind. I cannot tell you how many batteries turned into spicy pillows in just MONTHS after being opened even on their supposed premium business laptops
Lenovo used to be shit, but I’ve noticed they’ve stepped their game up the last few years while OTOH Asus is the opposite being good at first but now starting to show signs of enshittification.
Basically, brand loyalty is BS any brand can turn to shit at any time and any brand can go to being a diamond again (Except HP, they’ve become irredeemable in my eyes) and those business contracts to get bulk discounts serve no purpose other than to lock in IT departments to that specific brand instead of being able to be flexible when the times change
Depends, for companies on a Pro plan or below they have to request it and slack will only approve said request if required to by law or other legal requirement (or consent of user in question)
Above that plan, only Workspace Owner admins specifically can access it. A workspace owner is the one who originally signed up for the plan and users directly designated to be a Workspace Owner from the original one.
Frankly, if it’s something that can get you in trouble DON’T use a work thing for it whatsoever! Be it slack, your work computer or work email.
If you want to talk about such things with a coworker, ask for their damn phone number or find them on SM, seriously, keep it off work stuff. There’s always a way to access even supposedly private stuff if done on a work device or service.

Dell
Well there’s your problem, I’ve instituted an IT purchasing policy with a whole section dedicated to banned brands, HP is first and Dell a close second lol (power is nice sometimes lmao)
0, they’re like umbrellas to me, I never bother with them
Define affordable, and also what you want out of it, 4K? High framerates? 1080p?
In general I’d say, unless you’re willing and able to spend 7-800+, the steam deck is giving you the best value to performance for “out of the box”/prebuilt.
If you want something better with any hope of approaching the price point of a steam deck you’ll have to build your own PC
don’t tell me what to do!
