  • This is the power of the algos.

I had two Reddit accounts and one was solely used for gaming. Which started to give me feeds completely different then my more left, progressivy main account.

I would get these heavy metal videos about Mexican rapists that were deported on the one linked with gaming. (A clear conservative take). Showed Canadians as commies / socialist evil staties. Like dudes face - deportation date - what they were convicted of - murder or rape. It was wild.

And some of my liberal social main account demonstrated or showed a shit load of Canadian content that linked them with MAGA. And consistently highlighted their crimes against indigenous people. With tag lines of like “they want to talk about what we do - look at what they do”.

so I’m not even sure if the blue line ticking up is “I hate Canadians” or “they are magats too”

To be clear - am American - hate Americans - hate social media (Lemmy is my last social hope / account left) am team Canada all the way / Europe all the way.

  • Yeah totally agree - which should make workers movements that prioritize wins for all American workers the goal. Child care / education systems that work / health care coverage that works - helps the 8% rugged manufacturing as well as like 50% of the active work force. Vs. bringing back high labor work / low skill - which if we pull it off would mean I what? 2-4% expansion of those industries? So…. 12% of the workforce would be prioritized? (as they expand those sectors).

Internal manufacturing to secure specific interests makes sense. (Medical supplies like during COVID or reduction of reliance from certain super powers sure.

But the current admin is at odds with financing sectors or even stimulating or supporting sectors with policy (it’s actively cutting and damaging policy in them) while also slamming tariffs across the very same sectors.

So it makes no sense. But that’s what I figured going into all this. We are reducing class mobility, while reducing health and safety, with every policy and cut. While increasing the debt simultaneously. It’s wild.

Yes but that was when manufacturing was 33% of the workforce.

Today it’s only 8%. Machinery and robots do the labor and generate extreme wealth in tech and other spaces.

So theoretically you would not REQUIRE the same degrees of exploitation to achieve a middle class similar to that time period.

The win of factory and laborers work is unionization. Tech means decentralized workforce and less likelihood to trust your peers and unionize which was one of the largest wins of the 50s. When you are rubbing elbows with your coworkers - and are geographically living through similar cost of living as your colleagues - you are more likely to strike or require the same or similar types of improvements at the same moments.

  • Yeah so any space where a caregiver or worker can get fined huge sums of money for not taking adequate action it should just be illegal for AI to inherit that space then?

Because when I worked in the psych space if I was told XYand Z - I would need to act or as an individual face 30-100,000 dollars in fines.

If it’s left to the company you will just see shell corps housing the AI client facing hub. That will dissolve when legal critical mass forms and costs now outweigh the revenue wins.

“We formed LLC psych screen services, who will help our hospital team with mental health call volume!”

“Psych screen LLC is facing 27 lawsuits and is committing bankruptcy!”

“We formed LLC psych now using a different AI tool!”

  • So insurance companies use AI to screen claims.

It denies a claim for life saving intervention - person dies. Who is responsible for that? Historically it would be the insurance company - and worker. Would it be them or the AI company?

Psych screening tools were using it to pre screen calls.

Ai tells the person to kill themselves - who is at fault if they do it. Psych screener would lose their job and their license. What and who is impacted if AI does it.

QA check on a car or product is passed by AI but should have failed.

Thousands die before the recall. Who is at fault for it? The Company leveraging AI. Or the AI itself?

  • Joey badass said it years ago - have to be careful now.

“With all of the conflict of propaganda, I believe they are simply tryna slander
Start a Civil War within the USA amongst black and white and those alike
They are simply pushin’ us to our limit so that we can all get together and get with it
They want us to rebel, so that it makes easier for them to kill us and put us in jails Alton Sterlings are happenin’ every day in this country and around the world
The scary part, boys and girls
Is most of these stories don’t make it to the news and reach mass consciousness It is for sure time that we as a people stand up for acknowledgement
And accomplishment of what we call human rights
[It is time to rebel, better yet, raise hell
I just want everyone to be cautious about how they go about it
Because this is all part of the government’s plan and what they been plottin’ They’re literally beggin’ for this to happen, so they can kill us off
Usin’ uprisin’ and rebellion as the excuse in a timely fashion The cancerous foods, the chemical warfare, economic sufferin’ is not workin’ fast enough
There are many steps ahead of us and manifestin’ the future that they want
We have to work together, not only rattlin’ them on a physical plane
But to outsmart them on an intellectual mental level the same

Justice won’t be served by a hashtag, and that’s the very reason I ask that
What are we to do? We’re scattered around
With no clue of this ugly truth
All we know is who they ridiculed and who gets minisculed
Time to wake the fuck up and do our own research
And not form opinions based on just what we’ve heard
Ameri-K-K-K-a is force feedin’ you lies down your throats with a silver spoon
And eventually, we’ll all be doomed
    Real, real, real soon

  • Most of us just don’t know what we can actually do and are being gaslit by everyone around us that it’s not as bad as the media is making it sound.

So if you do something you are being irrational and the things you can do without being thrown in jail have no results currently (and are being done to no avail). If you don’t do something you know it’s going to get worse. And then the worse thing you know that’s coming requires really serious counter measures.

Which if you act on timely you will be seen as over reactionary - and the problem. And then everything worse that comes after that will be seen as an appropriate response to the “radical violent and lunatic left”

Most of us in my lefty group are just starting to stockpile food and water. Either it’s full market crash or worse. So. Have the essentials on hand and a method to protect them. Fingers crossed it won’t get to that. But. It probably will.

  • Haha - I need to take a page out of your book.

I just project as a curious intellectual with things and then also enjoy certain classical music or styles in music that capture classical sounds, but feel like my entire appeal or ability to be convincing is meeting people where they are at and then engaging the more theoretical sides from them, once they realize I’m respectful and trusting and not condescending.

I worry that if I pull into work listening to a concerto that I will no longer have the ability for folks to trust that I really can meet them where they are. lol. And I do educate train and onboard / facilitate comprehensive learnings for larger groups in my health care role. So it’s clearly a passion to be effective with that.

Too much anxiety about something that probably doesnt matter clearly per my down votes. Haha. Feel like there is a stigma in sort of being education providing - and condescending. And it becomes harder to dodge that as the first post indicates if say, the first impression is me listening to classical music whilst drinking an IPA haha. My ability to tease out a theoretical thought exercise conversation in a trusting environment might diminish up front (is the fear) and then I won’t effectively engage in my favorite types of discussions.

  • I love Chad Lawsons album “Breathe” but haven’t told a single soul IRL. Will listen in my car during long commutes.

His description on irreplaceable, fields of forever and letting go really hit hard during the listen.

So if the idea is people only want status from listening or social drivers to land the act. Then I’m an outlier. Haha. Because I’m so self conscious of the projection of “the type” that listens to it I avoid being seen or known as a listener. If stopped at a light or pulling into a lot will turn it all the way down lol
