24·3 days agoI think the whole point of pandora’s box is that you don’t contain it at all once it has been opened, but I could be rusty on my mythology.
The AR-15 is ridiculously easy to shoot with no formal training and easy to hit a tight grouping at 20 yards the first time you pick it up
Honestly that is every rifle ever made, 20yd is 60ft, the max effective range of the AR with 5.56 is about 600m or 1968.5ft. The AR and its common caliber are far from the best rifle at distance, 6mmARC for example you can push out to 1,000yd. Iirc the longest sniper kill so far on record was 1mi with .338 lapua. 60ft is honestly pistol distances, at this point you’d have to basically ban all rifles. Even .22lr can go 200yd accurately out of a rifle.

Pre-1968, civilians could buy full auto machineguns. At one point in the 1930s the Sears catalog would send a full auto Tommy Gun straight to your house via mail order with no background check.
Slight correction, between '30-'68 you could still get full auto thompsons mailed to you at 12yo (if you had the dough, of course). The GCA of 1968 is what gave us the background checks, and they became instant in the 90s thanks to the internet. Full auto wasn’t banned (yes yes I know “technically it isn’t banned…” yeah it basically is) until 1986.
And high profile murders did happen but it was mostly stuff like the Valentines Day Massacre, the SLA killing the first black superintendent, Kennedy, Lennon, y’know, not school shootings.

I think the bad stock placement was more due to the terrible eye relief on a backwards LPVO lol.
How would someone who isn’t a master at arms and probably qualifies on a weapon once, maybe twice a year going to know that someone else installed the sight on his weapon backwards?
Well, in the photo he’s looking through it. You ever look through a telescope or some binoculars backwards? Scope supposed to make things bigger, not smaller, good clue. And tbf he should know that.
Honestly if you figured out lemmy you can figure out linux at least enough not to be a 95yo about it.
Use a distro that is both popular and good for beginners, like Fedora or it’s KDE spin, or Mint. There will be learning, there probably will be troubleshooting, you’re switching from something you’ve always been familiar with to a new thing, it is unavoidable. It’s like moving to Mexico, you’ll need to pick up at least a little Spanish. It’s really not as hard as people make it seem, most questions will be solved by searching the problem and pasting in a terminal command, but it’s good to learn what those commands do over time. It might benefit you to use the computer more often while learning if possible.

Never unlock the door after close, she probably fits in the typical category of inconsiderate assholes who “just want an X,” but this is also a common robbery technique. They’ll have someone nonthreatening knock on the door to try and get you to open it to say “fuck off we’re closed” and the second you do 4 dudes with guns (or knives, machetes, whatever) run around the corner and rush the door.
Just hit em with the “we’re closed” lipsync and the “we’re closed” international symbol: hand chop moving away from the body in front of the dominant hand side of your neck 2x.
This puts a whole new spin on Visigoths.
No this is good, I’ve been complaining about this since I was a kid and drank one where the straw got all clogged up so I cut into it and there was some creepy gross dead worm looking thing.

Personally I believe violence should only be used in defense of self or innocent people around you from imminent threats, never otherwise. Use words to fight words, use ideas to fight ideas, use fists to fight fists, guns to fight guns or knives. Straight pacifism to the degree of foregoing defense seems naive to me, but so does using violence for anything but defense from violence.
