A custom ROM allows you to extend the life of your Android phone, but does it come with risks in 2024 and why isn't it more popular?

    I wouldn’t buy a phone I couldn’t install a custom android version like Lineage or GrapheneOS on. So much less bullshit.

    Isn’t it getting harder to find custom ROMs, now? Used to be basically everything was on XDA forums, but I’ve heard lots of custom ROMs are moving to they’re own websites/Discord servers/whatever.

      I’ve noticed that XDA still has the main threads and download links, even if more frequent communication happens elsewhere.

    Here’s a thought, may you shouldn’t use the McDonald’s app or banking apps on you phone. These apps are bad for many reasons.

    I’m also surprised the didn’t mention MicroG

    Overall not a bad article but it reads like someone who has a dated understanding of custom ROMs
