It’s just posturing. Putin knows he’s in the driver’s seat now. He can do basically whatever he wants, so he can actually amplify his brio for the next six weeks, and then he can actually act on some of the threats after Trump is in office. As I’ve argued elsewhere, his goal at this point is likely to give an excuse and cover for Trump to exit NATO, which would dramatically open up his options and leverage in Europe more broadly.

Well, Ukraine is probably also attacking Russia with Russian arms too, so perhaps Putin should nuke Russia too.

Sorry, Vlad. Can’t hear you over the rattling of that sabre.

LMAO. I’m guessing that if Putin will ever use nukes, it will be in Kursk, just like Prigozhin predicted xD

    Do it, pussies!
I’m so over the bullshit of the last decade or so that a quick death in nuclear hellfire sounds absolutely merciful compared to what awaits us if we continue this downward spiral.

Well, ever since there was that fighting around nuclear power plants, I was regularly checking weather patterns, especially the wind directions. If he, say, nuked Kiew within the next week, the fallout would mostly blow to Belarus and back to Russia. Plus, then all guards come off, no treaty has meaning and I see no reason for not going full dirty warfare by Ukraine by say destroying/causing meltdowns hitting nuclear power plants in Russia directly (Kursk,…) thus causing likely fallout over Moscow. And that’s not even including a European response, where there’s historically very little tolerance for fallout-causing type events and therefore could evoke a disproportionately strong we-have-nothing-more-to-lose-and-are-estremely-pissed response.

So, all hypothetical, but what I’m saying is, it’s not a good outcome where everyone loses, but especially bad for Russia. I’m not convinced that’s what will happen.

Yes, but no. The optimistic version would be that they try something and the missiles just don’t do anything. However failure can be far more than just a non-event, it could happen as it launches, midway, almost to target, even not heading towards the target but elsewhere, etc. A badly maintained Russian arsenal doesn’t mean it couldn’t ruin a lot of people’s day.

That being said, I think Putin is a lot of hot air. The issue now is which kind of cornered animal will he act like when called out? Let’s hope it’s just crying and fetal position and not one that tries to take everyone with them.

The problem with that is, if we were to detect them even attempting a launch, we also launch. Meaning even if their missiles turn out to be duds, millions still die.

Putin will sit around for th3 next 2 months and nuke Ukraine once his puppet is in office again. Do you really think Trump will nuke Russia?
