This was mentioned elsewhere, but I wonder if it had anything to do with right wing folks attacking FEMA employees. It seems like we’re missing half of the story here.

The message was part of a bulleted list of “best practices”, sandwiched between “don’t go anywhere alone” and “practice de-escalation” so I’m pretty certain they were afraid of being harassed or attacked.

Whether it was or was not. It should be disqualifying for anyone to work for the government and do that. So I guess that means we’ll have to fire Trump. Because he want to do it to California.

I will still feel better if the investigations reveal it was due to safety from being attacked SEVERAL TIMES by the stupid asses in the trump camp. FEMA workers have a right to feel safe while doing their job. I hope the investigation also comes with a list of reported harassment, because I haven’t seen a comprehensive one yet

It’s specifically about Milton and Florida, so I don’t think it’s tied to the craziness that was going on in Western NC after Helene. The takeaway should be that one supervisor let politics get in the way of their job and got properly removed for it. My first thought in seeing this news was how well signs must have been put into the ground to not be gone after cat 1 winds. Or what if your neighbor’s sign got blown into your yard?

No, you should not have any “takeaway” without way more information than is publicly available now. This is the same thing that happened with ACORN: Republicans made a bunch of false accusations and idiot Democrats were way too fast about accepting their premise and firing the accused without even the slightest inquiry into what actually happens. I see we have learned nothing.

My money says this was entirely about keeping their crews safe. It doesn’t make sense for them to just arbitrarily not help Republicans, so I want to hear from the manager before they are pilloried.

You’re correct that more information in an investigation will bring light to what happened, however I’m going by the info in the article and not just the title, and there is more info there. Your last part suggests you’re referring to the other storm’s area and FEMA threats there, not in Florida.

When I said “more data than is publicly available now”, did you think I was referring to a title on Lemmy?

The article includes someone they refer to as a “whistleblower”. The analogy with ACORN would be noted liar Jacob Wohl.

The article also includes a statement from FEMA Agency head, Deanne Criswell. I was talking about her when I said “idiot Democrats who fired the accused without even the slightest inquiry”.

On second thought, I’m not sure she’s a Democrat. I assume she was appointed by Biden. But the article does not indicate any sort of inquiry or have a statement from the manager involved.

Are you under the impression that only NC Republicans hate FEMA? This conspiracy theory is decades old. I suspect you are referring to Helene because you are ignorant of the long standing antipathy between Republicans and FEMA.

If you have any reason to believe Republicans aren’t threatening FEMA workers after Milton, feel free to share it. Otherwise, maybe wait for an investigation before jumping to conclusions.

I can’t prove a negative. I wasn’t aware of FEMA workers being threatened in Florida like in NC and TN. I also can’t seem to find any news about it, only about the earlier. Doesn’t mean it’s not true, it’s just that the idea of people attacking those trying to help them didn’t seem to be in both places based on a search.
